Additional Services and Clinics

We provide a wide range of additional services and clinics. Brief details can be found below and further information is available via the reception.

Diabetic Clinic

The diabetes service is run by a team of 3 GPs and 2 Specialist Nurses with additional support from the dieticians and retinal screening service.Diabetic patients are seen regularly in designated diabetes clinics. These clinics are available on a Monday at Hedon, and Wednesday at Keyingham.

We can provide a full service including glucose tolerance testing and insulin conversion if required.

Chronic Disease Management

Patients with long term conditions such as asthma, COPD or heart disease are seen regularly in the appropriate clinics. Our nurses are highly skilled at providing ongoing assessment and management of these conditions. On occasion you may be asked to see a GP for more complex problems.

Child Surveillance and Immunisation Clinics

These clinics are held at Hedon every Wednesday between 1.30 and 3.00pm.The postnatal baby clinic is run in conjunction with the Health Visitors and baby immunisations are provided by our nursing team.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery is performed in house to remove small lesions such as moles or cysts. Please see a GP in a routine appointment initially for assessment. If appropriate they will then refer you into this service.

Anti-coagulation

We offer a nurse led clinic for anti-coagulation monitoring for those patients taking warfarin. This consists of near-patient testing ( finger prick test) and immediate advice as to the correct dosage and follow up.

Maternity Care

For details on provision of maternity care, please refer to our dedicated leaflet, which is available in the main Reception area.

Vaccinations and Immunisations

We provide information and advice about these to patients. Where the offer is accepted by the patient, we administer the vaccination/immunisation in accordance with guidelines.

A full range of standard vaccinations is offered including seasonal flu vaccination for high risk groups.

Travel advice

We have a nurse led clinic offering travel health advice and immunisations. Please complete a travel form and hand in to reception well before the date of travel. Click on tab above for further advice.

Contraception and Womens Health

Contraceptive advice is provided during normal surgeries by all Doctors and Nurse Janet .

A full range of contraceptives, including condoms, are available.

Coils are fitted by appointment - please discuss with Nurse Janet or a GP.

Contraceptive implants are fitted by appointment - please discuss with Nurse Janet or a GP.

Ring Pessaries can be fitted or changed during normal surgery hours. Please ask reception for further details.

Cervical smears

All women under 50 years of age are advised to have cervical smear tests every three years and those over 50 years of age, every five years. The cervical screening programme ceases at age 65 years.

Smear clinics are provided by our nursing staff and can be booked via reception.

Please note we can only perform your smear if you have received a smear invitation from the screening service. If you have any symptomatic problems please see a GP.

Breast Screening

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer amongst women. A nationwide breast screening service is offered for the benefit of women aged over 50. All women aged between 50 and 64 will be invited for initial breast screening (mammography) every 3 years. Women aged 64 will be entitled to the service every 3 years on request.

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to complete a travel form (available from reception). This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

The nurse responsible for travel vaccinations will then check your records and advise which vaccinations are required, and whether antimalarial treatment is required.

Please ensure you complete your travel form well in advance of your planned date of travel as many vaccines require up to six weeks between doses.

Please be aware that some specialist vaccinations and all antimalarial treatment is not available on the NHS. You will be required to pay the full cost of treatment befoer these items are ordered.

Sickness Certificates

online healthcare You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will need to see the doctor for him/her to issue a sickness certificate and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate. If your employer insists on a sickness certificate for 7 days or less a charge will be levied.

From 6 April 2010, the current sickness certificates are being replaced by a new 'Fit Note'. This may allow some patients to return to work earlier if suitable arrangements can be made by employers.

On Line Appointment Booking now available

We now have a range of appointments that can be booked (or cancelled) on line. Please complete the necessary documentation available from Reception.

A ppointments - Text Message Reminders

To reduce the number of missed appointments we are now sending patients a text message containing their appointment details when a booking is made.

A further message will also be sent 48 hours before the appointment is due as a reminder.

Patient Reference Group

The 2011/2012 Patient Survey Report is now available for perusal. Please click on "Survey Report" under Further Information, on the right hand side.

Updating patients' records

We are currently asking patients to complete some basic details to ensure that our records are 100% correct e.g. telephone numbers. We would also like to take e-mail addresses so that we can ensure the practice Newsletters are seen by as many patients as possible, not just those who attend the surgery.

Pneumonia vaccination

All patients aged over 65 are eligible for a pneumonia vaccination. This is a single injection that provides lifelong protection. If you will be aged 65 or over on 31st March 2014 and have not been vaccinated, please book via reception.
